Please join us at our Introduction To Flash Portraiture: Part 2 - Practical, Hands On Session

In this session you will be using a flash lighting setup to capture a high quality portrait with a specific style in mind.  We will work in small groups with instruction and feedback.

Topics covered will be:

  • Effective communication with a male or female subject
  • Simply posing suggestions
  • Selecting either a speedlight or studio monolight solution
  • Working with a single light source, light modifier and reflector(s)
  • Basic portrait lighting techniques

Workshop fee $50.00

Attendence for this workshop will be limited to 12 people

OCC SUMMER CHALLENGE #5
Tuesday, Sept. 8th - 7pm to 9pm

Our fifth summer challenge will be held on-line (via WebEx) on Tuesday, September 8th

For this challenge, OCC club members are invited to submit up to 3 images to be critiqued by the participants. You may submit more than one image to a theme, but the total number of images submitted to the challenge must not exceed 3. 

Deadline for submission is midnight Sat. Sept. 5th! 

Images must be submitted to as jpg attachments (minimum size 1 mb), following the naming protocol for all club challenges (Title_Author.jpg) to:  challenges@oakvillecameraclub.com

The themes for this challenge are:

1.  Still Life Photography: Create a simple composition of inanimate natural or man-made objects.

2. Exploration Category: Extend yourself.  Try something entirely original to you - a new technique or style, a different genre of photography, etc.

3. Open Category: submit an image you would like to have critiqued by the group.

Martin Bailey is a nature and wildlife photographer based in Tokyo. He’s a pioneering Podcaster and blogger, Capture One Ambassador and X-Rite Coloratti member. Fueled by his passion for nature and travel, and a tireless desire to share his knowledge and artistic vision, Martin is a popular international tour & workshop leader, helping photographers from around the world to experience and capture the wonders of this awesome planet we call home. 

Martin will present his experience with the Canon R mirrorless system which he has been using for years as well as his most recent experiences with the just released Canon R5.

An incredible educator that he is, Martin will share tips on field technique, how to ge the most out of your camera in the field as well as sharing some post processing tips.

Documenting Earth’s Extremes: Getting The Shot & Staying Alive”

Explorer & photographer George Kourounis shares hair-raising tales from his many worldwide expeditions to photograph storms, volcanoes and other natural disasters. He’ll also give you tips on how to use bad weather to your advantage, how to protect your gear, and how to stay safe in the worst conditions imaginable. 

Bio:

George is an explorer/photographer/storm chaser/& TV presenter who is known globally as a expert who specializes in extreme forces of nature and natural disasters. For over 20 years he's been on the scene during Mother Nature’s worst temper tantrums, including tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, avalanches, floods, and any other extreme you can imagine. His adventures have taken him to 70+ countries, across all seven continents to places such as Madagascar, North Korea, The Congo, Vanuatu, Antarctica, Venezuela, Greenland, and Siberia.

He is an Explorer-In-Residence with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, a National Geographic Society expedition leader, the chairman of The Explorers Club Canadian Chapter, and was named one of Canada’s top 45 living explorers by Canadian Geographic Magazine. George has given several international TEDx talks and has addressed the United Nations Environmental Emergencies Forum. He regularly appears on television, commenting on weather events and disasters, and has hosted 49 episodes his own TV series “Angry Planet”, which aired globally on numerous networks.
