Subject: Communication from the President on COVID-19 Update to Oakville Camera Club Members
Dear Valued Member of the Oakville Camera Club;
I hope this letter finds you well. Over the past few weeks, much has changed in our daily lives, with our days now filled by working-from-home, with the remainder of our time spent in self-isolation, practicing physical and social distancing, and keeping a balance within our family lives.
It has become clear that the world is facing an unparalleled challenge, and that we need to prepare for the long-haul. Like you, we continue to focus our concerns on the well-being of our families and communities, while supporting one other, and keeping each other safe and healthy.
With respect to the concern over the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the leadership of the Oakville Camera Club continues to remain proactive. By monitor the situation locally, understanding the ongoing developments, and adjusting our strategy accordingly, we hope to keep providing opportunities to you, our photographers in a friendly, and supportive environment. We strive to explore opportunities where we can contribute through the photographic arts, and offer knowledge sharing opportunities amongst our members.
We continued to be in direct communication with the Town of Oakville. On March 13, the Town of Oakville closed all recreation and culture facilities to the public in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with the Town directive, OCC implemented preventative measures to immediately protect our Members, and reduce the potential for spread of the virus.
Since then, provincial cases continue to increase and a quick end to this pandemic remains highly unlikely. We need to flatten the curve. Ongoing physical distancing and avoidance of group gatherings is imperative. The Town of Oakville has therefore made the decision to further extend the closure of all recreation and culture facilities until further notice. All town facility, parks, and sports field rental bookings are now cancelled until May 31, 2020.
As a valued member of the Oakville Camara Club family, in light of these recent measures, we have made adjustments and implemented a number of impactful changes. Your Board is busy behind the scenes working to ensure the continuity of our programming, and was excited to offer our first ever multi-media meeting format using Webex technology, and present the Winter Challenge Results Night on Monday, 30 March. We will continue to evaluate opportunities where technology can assist with our outreach to our valued Members.
While we strive to provide you, our Members with continuity of programming, unfortunately, as a result of the above Town COVID-19 health-safety measures, we are continuing to adjust our programs. We understand you have questions and concerns about upcoming programming, and will continue to communicate changes in a timely manner through our OCC Website program calendar, social media posts, and direct e-mail notifications:
As of now the following changes have been made:
1. OCC Workshop: Introduction to Flash Portraiture: Part 1 - Information Session re-scheduled for Sunday, 10 May - CANCELLED
2. 14th Annual Capture Oakville Photography Exhibition and Gala scheduled for 24 Apr - CANCELLED
3. OCC Workshop: Introduction to Flash Portraiture: Part 2 - Information Session planned for June - CANCELLED
4. Outing: Return to Raptors scheduled for May - CANCELLED [ tentatively rescheduled for 13 Jul ]
Note: Refunds have been processed through PayPal for all Members having paid for attending any of the above events.
We are continuing to review our programming that may be affected, included planned workshops, and looking at re-scheduling at later dates once it is safe to do so. We are considering a scaled-down offering of our Capture Oakville Photography Competition, also at a later date.
Be assured we will do everything we can to continue to serve our Members safely, and will continue to closely follow the guidance of the Health Canada, the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC), and both Ontario provincial authorities, and local health officials.
Helpful Tips for Prevention of COVID-19
The health and well-being of our family, friends and colleagues are top priority for us and we are committed to providing a safe space for all.
In order to provide assurance that appropriate measures are in place to ensure that our spaces (homes and offices) are safe, please consider the following:
- A daily wipe down of hard surfaces
- Single use hand cloths available
- Disinfecting hand soap available
- Alcohol-based hand sanitizers
For the protection of yourself and fellow members, please refrain from coming to the any OCC events if you are feeling unwell. Be mindful and assess yourself for the following symptoms:
- Difficulty Breathing
In addition, being aware of your exposure to certain situations such as:
- You have traveled to one of the affected areas in the 14 days prior to symptoms starting
- You have been in close contact with someone who has experienced similar symptoms (as described above) within 14 days of visiting one of the affected areas
- You have been exposed to a person with a confirmed or presumptive COVID-19 infection
While the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the current public health risk associated with coronavirus as low, we ask you to be mindful while interacting with teachers, fellow students, family and friends. The best way to protect yourself is to practice good health hygiene.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water
- Use single-use cloths in bathrooms for drying
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Avoid handshakes and give a fist bump, a nod, a smile instead
- Cough or sneeze into your arm or sleeve
- Stay home if you feel unwell
This is a time to work together as community to keep us all healthy and safe. Please contact Public Health Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 if you meet the symptom criteria outlined above, or visit:
